I heard this interesting story a conference earlier this week and I do not know if it is actually true, but it is neat...
There were a group of engineers and scientists that wanted to design and fly the world fastest plane. So they got together and planned and built many airplanes. As they were testing them, there would be a point in which the pilot put on the throttle of the plane and the plane started feeling like it was getting out of control it would shake and move back and forth in the air...this was called buffeting. Whenever a pilot hit this speed, they would yell into their radio "buffeting" and bring back the throttle to slow down, resulting in a crash. This happened over and over with many plane designs. Finally one pilot, who appeared just like the rest of them got into the plane and took off. He started increasing his speed and could feel that the plane was starting to buffet. He shouted "buffeting, buffeting" into his radio, but then he pushed the throttle forward, increasing speed... soon there was a loud bang, and he realized that he was no longer buffeting. He had achieved the fastest air speed!
This shows is that there are always obstacles in our path, and if we always pull back when we get shaky or scared, we may crash. However if we continue to progress forward through the rough patches we may achieve something great!

Thanks for that story...just in time for me to get on a plane..haha
That is totally a true story. That's the story of breaking the sound barrier. Chuck Yeager is the name of the guy who first broke through the sound barrier and flew faster than the speed of sound.
Yes, I am a dork for knowing this stuff. My favorite movie when I was little was The Right Stuff...which was about the first astronauts and the movie starts with Chuck Yeager breaking the sound barrier. (I used to want to be an astrounaut).
Thanks Jenny!!!
